Shakespeare Playing Cards. Fate is the one that shuffles, but we are the ones we play

William Shakespeare, the writer and playwright considered by many to be the greatest of all time, has been an inexhaustible source of inspiration, such as in this deck: SHAKESPEARE.

This beautiful creation comes from the hand of Trident Playing Cards, a new label that represents a group of Ukrainian artists and designers who have worked with Noir Arts (NPCC). The illustrations have been done by Maksym Lebedyk and pay tribute to the great writer through a reinterpretation of a 1902 deck illustrated by Colin Tilney and subsequently reproduced on several occasions by Waddington in the 1920s and 1970s.

The court cards depict characters from Shakespeare’s play grouped in each of the four suits according to their temperament or motivation: hearts for the most delicate emotions; diamonds for wealth or greed; clubs for aggressiveness and fighting and spades for conspiracy. Each character shows the personality defined by Shakespeare in his works.

Three editions of the deck have been created. The first two, Classic Black and Royal Burgundy, share the same card faces, with clean designs and light backgrounds. The difference is found in the back and in the tuck case, with black and red colors combined with shades of gold.

The third edition, Antique, will be unlocked as a stretch goal and will have an aged look. Special materials and metal foil techniques will be used to make the deck look 100 years old. The designs have also been aged and faded to achieve the desired effect.

You can also get as add-on a luxury collector’s box containing the three editions

All decks will be printed by Noir Arts (NPCC) in the Ukraine, a famous printer for the quality of the finishes and the beauty of their tuck cases.
