DON QUIXOTE Vol. 1 Playing Cards. The knight goes out again in search for new adventures

Somewhere in La Mancha, in a place whose name I do not care to remember, a gentleman lived not long ago, one of those who has a lance and ancient shield on a shelf and keeps a skinny nag and a greyhound for racing.

This is the beginning of the masterpiece of universal literature “The Ingenious Gentleman Don Quixote of La Mancha,  an exciting novel translated into more than 40 different languages and known in every corner of the earth written by the great Miguel de Cervantes Saavedra. This month we celebrate the 400th anniversary of his death and many activities, especially in Spain, are held around Cervantes and his work.

3 Don Quixote - Tuck Boxes

But the deck just launched doesn’t come from Spain, but from the United States, by one of my favorite artists, Nam Tibon (Cellar Window), whose work I spoke about a few days ago: DON QUIXOTE vol.1.

Nam wanted the release of his new deck to coincide with such an important date. The project is on and it will certainly be a great success. Not only because Don Quixote is popular for everyone, but because this deck is really beautiful and the elegance and taste of its designs will make it a desired item.

2 Don Quixote - Suits and Pips 5 Don Quixote - Detail

Don Quixote vol.1 is inspired by the first part of the famous novel, published in 1605, in which the knight travels the lands of Castile in search of justice and adventure, with his beloved Dulcinea in his mind, and where he meets a lot of people, many of them depicted in the court cards.

A very nice deck with old-etching style illustrations that will be printed by LPCC in Emerald finish with a few extras in the tuck case (stretch goals) such as the custom seal or the gold foil.

11 Don Quixote - Tucks 6 Don Quixote - Tuck Sides

There will be a second volume of the deck, inspired by the second part of the novel. I wonder if Nam (I hope not) will also take 10 years to launch it and if, as in the novel itself, its illustrations depict the success of the first volume.

Enjoy the images and if you like them, visit the project website and raise your pledge.

Good luck!
