The Princess Bride Playing Cards. Three charming decks

Just in case anyone is not aware, “The Princess Bride” is a 1987 popular film with all the ingredients for success: love, comedy, fantasy and adventure. There is a huge amount of fans out there and some of them take part of Albino Dragon, makers of playing cards and board games that have leaded successful campaigns in Kickstarter. For that reason, they have launched a new project inspired by the movie: The Princess Bride decks.

Albino Dragon has become a very popular company among the playing cards world thanks to their cool and successful deck projects such as “Call of Cthulhu”, “The White Rabbit”, “Synthesis” or “The Name of the Wind”, all designed by Shane Tyree, who is now working in his own project Call of Cthulhu: The Writhing Dark I was talking about some days ago.

In this new stage, AD have chosen to produce three different decks inspired by the Princess Bride, designed by different artists with different styles.

I had the chance to talk to Erik Dahlman and he told me this about the campaign:

“We are all huge Princess Bride fans and when we had the chance to do this, it was a bit surreal given how long the movie has been a part of our lives. There are quite literally words that whenever I hear them I automatically have the urge to quote lines from this film.

Taking on such a popular IP is a huge undertaking since we have to make sure that die hard fans are happy. Since we are only doing one project, it made sense to do multiple decks in different styles so that there was at least one that everyone could enjoy. We have three separate artists with their own unique styles, but each one is still true to the movie.

The trick with something like this is to make sure that we use all of the elements and characters from the movie that fans are familiar with, but still have a fresh take. I think we’ve done a good job of that so far and I’m very pleased with the way it’s all coming together.”

The decks will be printed by the USPCC and they are widely funded. There are just a few days to the end of the campaign. Get more info and raise your pledge if interested on the project website.

Good luck!
