PAPERCUTS deck. Paper, blade, patience and… playing cards!

Art Of Play is a solid company founded by Dan&Dave magicians that offers a huge catalog of quality design playing cards. Despite their extensive experience in the market, they have just jumped into the crowdfunding scenario to present us a unique deck: PAPERCUTS.

What makes this deck so special is that it does not come from a set of illustrations, as usual. In this deck, each card represents a detailed and meticulous handcrafted work. This work has been done by Suzy Taylor, an English artist who handles the papercutting technique with mastery (and huge doses of patience). From the original work, made along several months with paper and a craft knife, the art pieces have been scanned and combined to make a deck with a unique design.

While the numbered cards and the general structure of the deck follow the traditional pattern, with a slight customization in pips and indexes, the court cards, the ace of spades and the back show the complex and elaborate work full of details with filigrees, natural motifs and hundreds of precise cutouts.

For the designs, the traditional symmetry has been maintained and the cards will be stored in an elegant tuck case in cream color decorated with the ace of spades and the back.

The deck will be printed by the USPCC using paper from sustainable forests and environmentally friendly water based ink.

The campaign is widely funded and it is possible to get some of the original artwork made by the artist. If you like it, visit the project website and raise your pledge.

Good luck!

About the Author

I'm Max, a collector and passionate about playing cards. Since 2012 I try to spread this passion to everyone who goes through Max Playing Cards. In my articles I do not just talk about cards, as I try to look for the stories and the human beings behind them.

I would like to complete my collection of Bicycle decks some day, but now I know that is impossible ...
