DON QUIXOTE VOL. 2: ROCINANTE Playing cards. The deck Cervantes always wanted to own

I know that any friend of Max Playing Cards will know that I can’t hide my predilection for some artists who, over time, have become good friends. Nam Tibon (Cellar Window) is one of them and I always enjoy his releases very much. This time, it is the turn of DON QUIXOTE VOL. 2: ROCINANTE.

You may remember that this deck was already offered a few months ago as the second deck of the Vol. 2 campaign, but unfortunately (and unfairly) it was never printed as the campaign didn’t reach the funding enough for it. For this reason, Nam has decided to launch the deck in this new project and complete the series dedicated to the Knight of the Woeful Countenance.

The second part , was written by Cervantes in 1615, 10 years after the first one, and there, the characters of Don Quixote and Sancho become aware of the popularity of their adventures (narrated in the first part), something that marks in some way the development of the story. Cervantes himself appears in this part as a character who dares even, with a sublime clairvoyance, to affirm that the novel will become a classic of the universal literature.

This time, the deck takes its name from the restless equine partner of the “hidalgo”, Rocinante, a curious name that, according to the novel, Don Quixote took four days to decide and responds to a fun wordplay (ROCÍN -horse- – ANTES -before-), to reveal the present painful condition of the horse (all “skin and bones”).

Beauty and good taste, with elegant suits and elaborate designs. The background this time, is white, highlighting the beauty of the illustrations. The tuck case is decorated with a beautiful gold foil and and a custom perforated seal (both as stretch goals). In short, a work of art inspired by a work of art.

Printed by Legends Playing Cards Company, the campaign offers decks with quite reasonable prices including also free shipping.

Can’t miss it. Visit the project website and raise your pledge.

Good luck!
